Review of Quest for Camelot (1998) by Evan M — 26 May 2010
Back in the mid-90s, animation studios have been trying to take over Disney with the same style of 2D animation. They haven't been realizing that Disney already pushed the envelope with computer animation with the success in 1995 of TOY STORY and in 1999 with TOY STORY 2. Still, it didn't really make a huge difference when many animation studios tried to still be like Disney, Warner Bros. was one example with a ripoff of a Disney animated film, which is the ridiculous "Quest for Camelot.".
Okay, I couldn't understand one thing that was necessary or used in "Quest for Camelot." The characters are bad and the storyline makes no sense. The songs are beautiful but pointless. I think "Quest for Camelot" tries to be like Disney but ends up failing with its own lyrics.
"Quest for Camelot" tells the story of a girl named Kaylee. Unfortunately, her father is killed in the process of trying to defeat the evil knight, Ruber. Many years later, Ruber is trying to take over Camelot. So it's up to Kaylee to rescue the kingdom with her new friend, Garrett.
Okay, I couldn't really understand it. And let me tell you something about the voice cast, they don't make any sense. Gary Oldman is really stupid in this movie. Yet at that time, all he kept doing was using boring villain roles, such as Dr. Zachary Smith in "Lost In Space," which also came out in 1998 (the same year this movie did). Grow up, Gary. You're better in "Harry Potter" and Batman movies already. But the real asshole of this movie is Jaleel White who becomes stupid, evil and all of the sudden...a good guy.
Another annoying thing that existed in this movie was The Two-Headed Dragon voiced by Eric Idle and Don Rickles. The voice cast and the singing were so annoying. Honestly all these incredible voice talents suck.
There's way too much singing in this movie that really doesn't make any sense and not a lot of things that I could really follow up to. I try to follow up to as many cartoons as I can and many cartoons that I would like to avoid. This is one movie that I will avoid.
"Quest for Camelot" is really stupid. Don't waste your time.
