Review of Quest for Camelot (1998) by Catherine S — 20 Dec 2010
Good gracious, this is a bad movie. Quest For Camelot is a poorly animated movie with cheesy songs and terrible characters that are purely forgetable.
Quest For Camelot stars Kayley, a young girl who dreams of becoming a knight of the round table. Word soon gets out that Excaliber has been stolen and Kayley's mother Julianna is stolen by Ruber, a deceitful man who was once one of the Knights of The Round Table. Kayley sets off with the help of a blind hermit Garett, a two headed dragon named Devon and Cornwall, and a hawk named Aiden to save Excalibur and restore order and peace to Camelot.
What's wrong with this movie? Well, first off, the animation is terrible. The colors are dull and the drawing style is less interesting than the scribbles you find in a student's notebook. Second, the songs in this film are just terrible. I think the only decent song to come out of this is "The Prayer" by Celine Dion. All the others are cheesy and out of place in the movie, unlike Disney films which have good songs and they make sense. Finally, it feels like this movie went out of its way to rip off Disney. The style of the characters, the song themes, the villains, they all envoke a feeling of deja vu, however while Disney gets the formula right, Quest For Camelot is just terrible.
Overall, skip Quest For Camelot for your own good. I know there are several fans of this movie, but personally, I don't think it holds up very well. For those who like this movie, good for you. But for this critic, I'd rather watched something else. (Real rating: 24%).
