Review of Queen of Katwe (2016) by Dre S — 06 Oct 2016
The acting is great, but it's way too long and covers the same ground repeatedly and for no real reason other to emphasize the living circumstances the main characters are in, which is effectively established early and often.
Certain plot elements come and go for no real reason other than to appease the typical sports movie formula. Its certainly effective, but if it weren't based on a true story it probably wouldn't have worked.
Its last 45 minutes are a drag and pretty bland. It doesn't have the emotional weight it needed to be truly powerful.
