Another entry into the Disney oeuvre of sports movies that have been popping up since Cool Runnings in the early 90's, this time in an unexpected place focusing on the Ugandan Chess team and a young prodigy who rose through the ranks from the most unexpected of places when David Oyelowo's character spotted her innate curiosity when she observed one of his classes and put her to the test.

Also starring Lupita Nyong'o as Phiona's mother, the film itself is a straight forward if uplifting little film about sticking to your dreams even when encountering doubt etc etc. Have seen obviously both David and Lupita do much more challenging work so I am sure this one is just more for counter balance and such, but is ok sentimental escapism to balance out the blockbusters and Oscar contenders that sometimes come out to drain you.
