Review of Queen Margot (1994) by Molly B — 16 Jun 2007
To some extent the film uses Dumas' book as little more than to provide reference points to tell a tragic story of love, and is all the better for it. The book would be very difficult to directly transfer to the screen.
The film gives a rollicking good story, and, while the central plot is ficticious, it provides a good introduction to the Hugenot in 16th century France. A warning though - the opening depiction of the St.
Bartholomew's Day massacre is very gory.
