Review of Queen Margot (1994) by Aleksandar M — 08 Jan 2008
This movie is a part of my personal "troika" of "Movies of Terrible Beauty" (together with "The Mission" and "Before the Rain"); again, a story based on historical facts, a religious-driven slaughter of Protestant Huguenots performed by French Catholics in the "Bartholomew's night" in 1572. Like someone has said in a review before, you'll never see sex, blood and violence looking so beautiful, and I couldn't agree more. Isabelle Adjani caches all attention, her unearthly beauty contrasting all the terror around her. And again, there's a mesmerizing soundtrack, this time written by Goran Bregovic, that ties and penetrates everything like a perfect adhesive.
Like the other two, a movie that I could watch over again and again...
