The film's primary focus is the bloody 16th century struggle between French Catholics and Protestants and the resulting political intrigue of the French court. Sumptuously rich visuals, interesting (albeit quite confusing) historical storyline, and stunning lead actors (Perez and Adjani are GORGEOUS) make this film.
