Review of Quatermass and the Pit (1967) by Stephen C — 25 Dec 2007
Simply one of the best British SciFi films ever made .
Nigel Kneale was one of the best writers in the genre and Hammer finally got the funds to adapt this fantastic piece .
Ward Baker uses London locations with out resorting to the usual Phone box red bus Cliche.
Andrew Keir gives a wonderful performance as the slightly mad Bernard Quatermass called in to investigate a sinister excavation in A London Tube station.
He is given able supprt by James Donald as as fellow boffin and Julian Glover as A cynical General who gets his just deserts.
The climax is brilliant and though some of the FX are abit wobbly the film still sstands up today.
It will be interesting to see if the alleged resurrected Hammer will return to this story as I think it would be a great film to update in the light of shows like Doctor Who and Torchwood.
