Review of Quantum of Solace (2008) by Krista L — 13 Dec 2015
Pretty damn disappointing. After the awesome 'Casino Royale', I was expecting more of the same but instead we got a bunch of hard to follow action scenes that took up pretty much the whole running time, some awkward editing choices such as the final scene with Mathieu Amalric's character, a pretty weak sauce villain, an even worse henchman, a wasted use of Felix Leiter, an uninteresting storyline about oil and water, a low-key Bond girl and too many instances of Bond doing shit without any of the style associated with the character.
Daniel Craig felt more like a guy named James Bond than James Bond himself even in 'Casino Royale' but it was forgivable since he still had a few trademark quips now and then. In this movie, we got a mostly silent Bond running from place to place, sometimes in different vehicles, shooting people or evading capture.
It just didn't feel like a Bond movie. It isn't a terrible movie altogether but aside from the fact that I'd like to understand why certain characters were put in there, I have no desire to watch this again.
Damn my expectations, they ruined a decent film...
