Review of Pusher (1996) by Frank T — 01 Dec 2009
Nicolas Winding Refn's debut feature is dynamic in hell. Its essentially about a week in the life of drug dealer, as we watch things go from bad to worse. The documentary style camerawork is actually used perfectly in this film to make us feel right in the action.
It really aids in the realism of the film. The film is very well acted, but my biggest complaint would be that the main character isnt very likable; though one could argue why would he need to be; being a drug dealer.
Either way this lack of likability, hurts the films pacing a tad, but not during the last 30 minutes or so. Love the ending, and the overly dynamic nature of the film. Refn is really talented, and I can't wait to see what he does next after the excellent Bronson.
