Review of Purple Rain (1984) by Freddy M — 30 May 2008
If it wasn't for Prince's terrific score, this would probably be considered one of the worst movies ever made, a candidate for the "so-bad-it's-good" category. The central character is incredibly unlikable, made even worse by Prince's "acting".
None of the supporting characters provide much either, although Morris Day is somewhat amusing in comic relief. A steamy sex scene seems pretty indulgent of the Purple One, but, hey, who can blame him?
