Review of Puppetmaster (1989) by Christian T — 20 Jun 2009
Puppetmaster's one of those horror films that can put you to sleep no matter how awake you are... It's not even laughably bad so as to make the viewing experience more fun. Puppetmaster is simply a, bad film, no better way for me to put it.
However I must say the basic plot of the film is quite interesting and could, if made by the right hands, have been a wonderful unique horror film. Unfortunately it ended up being a bleak, dull, and all around forgettable film.
One of the good things about this film is the puppets themselves. These little fellas are some of the most original creations in a horror franchise I've ever seen. And the effects for them are actually, very well pulled off. I give props to the creators for that.
But aside from the puppets everything else is just, plain awful. The acting is bad for starters... The dull parts are lengthy, and the death scenes which is basically a shining point of a horror film are always too short. The climax of the film is also pretty much... Well, bad! There's that word again.
All in all Puppet Master is not the best horror film out there, it is however quite an interesting little gem. If you're a fan of horror, I recommend it.
