Review of Punisher: War Zone (2008) by Steve B — 28 Apr 2018
Really wanted to like this, but it's pretty horrible. The cheesy villains with laughable new york accents alone almost make this unwatchable. I love Dominic West in 'The Wire', but in this film, he is pure b-movie crap.
Similarly love Ray Stevenson in "Rome", but not in this movie. The Punisher should be hardened and resolute (see Daniel Craig as James Bond), but Stevenson portrays the Punisher as emotional.
.. very sad even. Maybe the fault of the director. Don't know. Overall, this film pounds the nail into the coffin for Punisher films. The best Punisher stories will live forever in the Garth Ennis comics.
Seems no one can make that brilliance translate to the screen.
