Review of Punisher: War Zone (2008) by Anthony B — 09 Apr 2013
The second reboot and the third punisher film, War Zone feels more like a sequel at certain points which isn't a bad thing. The film is very bloody and maybe more bloodier than is necessary. Ray Stevenson does very nicely portraying Frank Castle, but doesn't have that special edge that Thomas Jane had.
The choice of villain for this one was dead on. Dominic West was spectacular as the villain Jigsaw, not only in how he portrayed him, but how he looked as well. The storyline is choppy at best and deals with things that you would expect in a sequel, not a straight-up reboot.
The action is consistant which gives it a nice touch. The costume and weapons are all upgraded which is also very nice. Compare it to Jane's 2004 reboot and it loses, yet it's not a horrible film and it gives the punisher film that raw edge that was missing from the '04 reboot.
