Review of Punch-Drunk Love (2002) by Daniel A — 16 Sep 2011
An odd but endearing comedy romance, with the first Adam Sandler performance that I've ever really enjoyed. His character is mad as a box of frogs, but Sandler's great turn matches Paul Thomas Anderson's accomplished direction, making Punch-Drunk Love a certified hit.
Some viewers might be turned off by its unconventional approach to the romantic-comedy, but for those who want to be surprised and challenged, this is a great choice. Emily Watson also puts in an effective supporting turn, helping the romance translate well to the audience.
I liked it a lot.
