Review of Pumpkin (2002) by Frankie A — 18 Aug 2008
This might be the only time I haven't agreed with movie genius Roger Ebert. He gave it 3 1/2 stars and I just don't get it. Sure there are funny spots and the satire is rich, but it misses over and over again - unable to decide exactly what it is supposed to be.
Christina Ricci is a good actor but her efforts aren't enough. The story centers around Ricci as a college student who picks "Pumpkin", to be her romantic interest, a gangly disabled boy, who is her assigned sorority charity project.
This upsets everyone except her and Pumpkin. It all turns out ok in the end, although no one left in the theater would care.
