Review of Pump Up the Volume (2001) by Matthew C — 15 Aug 2009
Pump up the volume is a lot more than just a teen comedy. It is a well thought out, very realistic debate on free speech and a look at life as a teenager in a time when it seemed nobody cared about the problems of the young.
Christian Slater is utterly charming as the lead Mark who operates a pirate radio station from his parents garage and inadvertanly sparks a statewide debate on free speech when the kids of the town start listening to the show and find solace in his message.
this is much to the chagring of school principal who is illegally throwing kids out of school for having low SAT scores, but keeping their names on the roll. The film is literally perfect in every way.
