Review of Pump Up the Volume (2001) by Curtis R — 25 Aug 2010
By day Mark Hunter is a shy high school student newly transferred to a sleepy Arizona town but at night he becomes Happy Harry Hardon, the voice of his disaffected generation and pirate d.j. of his own basement radio station.
Between platter plays, Harry becomes a kind of teenage shrink for all the troubled kids of his school. When he underestimates a call from a truly troubled teen who calls his bluff and commits suicide, Mark must agonize on whether to continue what he started or give up and quit.
In the meantime, angry parents, frustrated teachers, and the F.C.C.are closing in to shut down the pirate d.j.
