Review of Pulp Fiction (1994) by Tristan M — 12 Aug 2016
It did take me a very long time until I finally watched what is rated as one of the best movies of all time, and it did not at all disappoint. To me Tarantino's work is kind hit and miss, I loved Django Unchained yet hated Inglorious Bastards, yet this one was fantastic, and I finally know where all the talk comes from regarding his scripts.
The combination of acting skill and script are what really make this movie what it is, not to mention how well shot it is and the story behind it all. Usually I don't like Travolta, however he does good here, and plays his character well, particularly when he's high.
Of course Samuel Jackson is fantastic as well, and this has gotta be one of the best characters he's played. Bruce Willis also is great, and I didn't realize for important a character he was for the film.
The story, blood, unexpected moments such as Travolta's death and the accidental shooting of a friend in the car are great and really make the movie unexpected and fun to watch, but the star is again the script and acting.
Everyone does so well at their jobs and the script is perfect, it's realistic and convincing yet still humorous and funny as hell at times, and just make the film a blast to watch. It may be a dark film for some, with dark subject matter and humour, however for those of us who like that stuff it's a good watch, and it's obvious where all the talk about this movie comes from, and there truth in it.
It was the one that really set Tarantino in the big leagues, and rightfully so. Very scene is just so well done, it's interesting, funny, dark, very different, and unique. One that deserves to be owned and watched more than once.
