Review of PTU (2003) by Eric R — 15 Mar 2010
Johnnie To creates a very slow burning film taking place over one night about a team of various cops all looking for colleague's missing gun. The film is gorgeous, with heavy use of spot-lighting. They flood certain area's with light, while leaving other areas basically in the dark, creating a very unique and beautiful atmosphere of Hong Kong at night.
The film lacks any major action set pieces like most of To's films but rather wants to dive more into the hearts and minds of these various cops and criminals on their pursuit. This is a world where cops and criminals are bad mean mother fuckers.
..Lee Marvin would have fit in well here.
