Review of Psycho (2007) by Jared S — 25 Feb 2014
Being made in 1960, Psycho is obviously of another era where films worked in different ways than they do today, but it's still an effective thriller and one of, if not Hitchcock's greatest films next to Rear Window and Vertigo.
The cinematography is stylish and without flaw. It's probably Hitchcock's best work as far as sheer movie craftsmanship is concerned and probably his most influential film. The suspense honestly wasn't great in terms of keeping my heart rate up, but it certainly worked. All in all, great movie - and I only give it 4 stars because I'm relatively unfair to older movies.
Spoilers:
I knew there was a twist, but I wasn't exactly expecting the twist I got and killing off Janet Leigh's character so early was a bit of a surprise even though I knew it was coming as some point (everyone's at least seen the shower scene).
