Review of Psycho (1960) by Janoy F — 02 Jun 2013
Anyone who is ever in any doubt as to whether or not filmmaking is an art form should watch this legendary film. Without this wonderfully directed, wonderfully acted well thought-through piece of cinematic gold, we would not have the slasher film or the horror-thriller.
This film revolutionised the horror genre, and well deserves its place in history.
I will extol this film's virtues 'til the cows come home. It's brilliant, not least because of Anthony Perkins's mad-as-a-box-of-frogs Norman Bates. But, it's Hitchcock that makes this what it is. He really knew how to build tension and create atmosphere, but he gave the film more than that with his meticulous eye for detail and his legendary dark humour.
Psycho is absolutely an magnificent film... and that shower scene... Just spectacular.
