Review of Proud Mary (2018) by Monique T — 15 Jan 2018
This movie made for an entertaining afternoon. The story of an assassin coming into her own and wanting to leave the business. violence, compassion, and a touch of feminism accompany her on her journey. Her character is not to be toyed with. I cannot think of another actress that could have bought to the screen what Henson always captures. Danny Glover is always a treat to watch and I have never seen Bill Brown look so handsome. Wha.. a shame he had to be dealt with. Jahi Di Allo Winston is super talented and has the poise of a much older more seasoned actor. His career will go far.
The throwback soundtrack is reminiscent of the Blaxploitation era but Mary isn't a stereotype. She is black girl magic, she is woman power, she is now!
