Review of Promising Young Woman (2020) by Eveveveve — 28 Mar 2021
The ending really ruins this movie. Loved the acting (especially Carey Mulligan and No Burnham), the art direction, the sets, the soundtrack, the dialogue, but not the overall story. There was a moment right at the middle-point where I said that I wanted this to win Best Picture and my opinion changed within a half hour.
There are at least 3 different routes that I can imagine this could have gone and had a better emotional pay off, but the one they chose was ultimately a mistake. Incredibly disappointed and disturbed by the underlying message: don't trust men.
