Review of Promised Land (2012) by Adam C — 11 May 2013
The film builds to what should be an inspiring conclusion, and ends up mired in cliche and predictability.. As talented a writer as Damon is (he does have a golden statue for doing as much) it's almost to his detriment that he's as talented an actor as he is.
Good Will Hunting is 15 years old. At the rate that he's going Stephen King could rewrite The Dark Tower before we get another screenplay from him. I would absolutely love to see a Screenplay co-written with his Oscar winning partner as well as directed by Affleck.
With Gus Van Sant behind the camera and Damon in front of the camera as well as behind the word processor, should have produced multiple divendends, and sadly made little in the way of waves. I'm not writing Damon off but any stretch, but perhaps I need to hold him, at least as far as the screenplay is concerned, to a lesser standard.
