Review of Promised Land (2012) by Colin M — 25 Jun 2013
Very well-written dialogue, a fitting visual style, and a cast giving their A-game (and Damon and Krasinski don't get many chances to do so these days). It's a dang good movie. But it does have a problem with tone and attitude.
You can't do a 21st Century Frank Capra movie dripping with cynicism and devoid of hope. And there's a "shocking" moment that takes all the welcome, intelligent realism of this film and throws it out the window.
