Review of Promised Land (2012) by Ola S — 01 Aug 2013
It's interesting that "Hollywood" seems to have started another kind of battle movies. Between Big Business and the common man. Or should we say greedy capitalism and what we like to call true American values.
Matt Damon and Frances McDormand hit this little city in Kentucky. They work for a company who wants to drill and they offer the landowners money. Of course not as much as the land is worth and of course without mentioning the environment risks. But Damon knows how to talk, until this green grassroot young man turns up.
The script is good and you get surprises. So is the acting, although Matt Damon plays the same character in every movie. Frances McDormand is always funny to watch as the US leading lady of bitches, but maybe she's also the best US female actor. Moral conflict with lots of reality touch.
