Review of Prom Night in Mississippi (2009) by Paul C — 20 Jul 2009
This is an excellent documentary about a school in Mississippi that still has segregated proms. But if the school hosts an integrated prom, then actor Morgan Freeman will pay for it.
The documentary focuses mainly on the students, but they also interview parents, faculty, and local residents. It was shocking to see how some people feel so strongly against an integrated prom. The school itself is integrated, yet some parents still want to continue this archaic practice of "separate but equal" when it comes to the prom. The white parents eventually hold their own "white-only" prom, while the school hosts the integrated prom. But some black parents also have their reservations about their kids having relationships with white students, let alone attend the prom.
