Review of Project X (2012) by Christian B — 15 Jan 2013
If you went into this movie expecting a psychological and thought provoking watch, you are already in the wrong. To review this movie as anything more than showcasing what is essentially every teenagers dream of the ultimate party, is an injustice.
Sure maybe Superbad had some more comedic moments, or plot devices and such, but that's because it is meant to be filmed like a Hollywood produced movie. For me and hopefully some other viewers, this movie was made to give anyone and everyone, whether you are a teenager in highschool looking to live this moment, or an adult looking back at their highschool days, the feeling of vicariously living and being at this party.
In the same light as Cloverfield, the first person filmed view is supposed to be you attending this party. This movie is not supposed to be filled with set up plot devices and hard hitting scripted comedy.
If you were a highschool teenager or still are, most still have trouble grasping the english language, let alone putting together seemingly scripted jokes. For anyone who knows how highschool kids are, swearing and extremely satirical and rude humor is the norm.
The point is, this movie is supposed to bring out the reckless, all out side in everyone, and put them in that moment. The moment where Thomas is on his roof, screaming out at the chopper, with hundreds of kids surrounding his destroyed house.
It does not matter what happens to his house at this point, his future is the last thing on his mind. All that matters is the fact that for that night, he is living with no boundaries, no rules, and he truly is living the highschool dream.
Hey, thats just my opinion.
