Review of Project X (2012) by Ishy W — 08 Oct 2017
Project X written by Thomas Mann, Oliver Cooper, and Dax Flame and released in 2005 can be viewed as a comedy thriller. The movie is very typical yet has an aspect that is so exciting it will leave the viewer at the edge of their seat. I would change little to anything about this film because of the many wild aspects that it already contains. This movie is one of the best party movies I have ever seen and that comes from a person that watches a lot of movies.
The setting of this film is very general but is purposeful. It is all surrounded by Thomas Cub's house with aspects involving high school while begin his birthday. The script of the overall movie is very well written with a story line that can be seen appealing to many viewers. The directing can be seen as different in a good way with having a camera man with other people with cameras as well that is supposedly recording this legendary night of theirs. The directors use of this unique aspect changes the perspective of the entire movie to the viewer. The aspect of the news talking about the party on TV while the people partying are watching the broadcast brings a different and unique view point.
The characters are not heavily made throughout the movie besides very basic facts that are obvious and relevant to the viewer. Some characters such as the 3 group of friends are very important and have a lot of dialogue in the movie that can be seen as both wild and funny. Other characters are relevant but only play small roles in the movie such as the Costa's drug dealer that eventually draws an end to the party. Thomas Cub is seen at first as a typical high school teenager that is influenced by his friends to throw a house party that will make him known to everybody. There are also character that are viewed in the film but have no background information and do not play a relevant role but are just seen having the time of their lives.
The soundtrack fits very well with this film because it gives the party more excitement and allows the viewer to feel more into the movie. The relevance of these songs are important because of the dancing that is taken place and because many of the scenes do not have dialogue so the music fills in at these moments. Without these song, the dancing from the film would leave an empty gap of silence that needs to be filled with another alternative. The music plays a major role in making the party scene very wild which includes the aspect of the DJ in the movie. The little dialogue can be seen as downside but one may enjoy the actions that are done in the movie way more than people talking.
The audience that the filmmakers try to reach are party animals. They make a movie that is centered around a crazy party for Thomas Cub turning 17 years old. Younger viewers are not encouraged to watch the film since it contains explicit content resulting it to be an R-rated movie.
Overall my rating on this movie would be an 8/10 because I highly enjoyed the comedy combined with the thrill of the party scenes. I would recommend this movie to almost everyone but especially to anyone that enjoys parties. Party of a lifetime that they threw and who would not want to watch it.
