Review of Project X (2012) by Dustin P — 22 Nov 2013
This is barely a movie. It's closer to being a 90 minute music video. The whole plot is that some high school kids throw a party and it gets out of control. That's pretty much it.
Even though the shaky handheld camera is in danger of being overused, I thought it worked fairly well with this type of movie. Sometimes you feel like you were there, which was kind of cool.
The characters are pretty bland, especially the main one. I know it's his role to be freaked out by the events, but is it too much to ask that he also be an interesting character as well?
There's some really ridiculously stupid moments. At one point, a drug dealer has a flame thrower and starts burning everything because he wants his stolen gnome back. Also, everyone is WAY too forgiving at the end of the film.
This film pretty much glamorizes getting drunk and being dipshits. I wouldn't have minded this so much if it actually had fleshed out it's characters and had some funnier moments. Could've been good if it had better writers.
