Review of Project Nim (2011) by Dean T — 14 Jul 2011
Fascinating documentary about a 'scientific' experiment in the 70's in which a chimpanzee is raised as a human from birth & taught sign language. Like Director James Marsh's previous effort Man on Wire the film is deftly constructed as a collage incorporating archival footage, photos, 'talking head' interviews, & reenactments.
Delves into some big themes with a light hand; Nature vs nurture, human identity, & even elements of the Pygmalion myth (My Fair Monkey).
