Review of Project Nim (2011) by Jason A — 29 Aug 2011
A fascinating and moving documentary that not only leaves you appreciating the human qualities of other primates, but also questioning the notion of objective science. Watching the lead scientist taking Nim into a controlled setting demonstrates beyond a reasonable doubt how much behaiour changes in controlled settings (and therefore how ineffective it is for the purposes of scientific learning). In contrast, the observations of Nim in a natural setting were deeply revealing, and enabled the viewer to understand the complexity of the relationships that Nim (and his carers) were capable of sustaining.
A triumph, deserving of all the acclaim it will undoubtedly receive.
