Review of Project Almanac (2015) by John J — 03 Feb 2015
I am a sci-fi buff, and I like my sci-fi more plausible than fantasy based. In other words I feel like it's more likely a creature like the xenomorph exists out there than a talking raccoon that fights crime with his buddy the animate tree.
I like movies that ask the question "What would it be like if this thing [insert theoretical physics/exbiological phenomenon happened? How might it happen? How would people react the first time they witnessed it?" This is why I liked the gritty realism of Chronicle, and that's why I also enjoyed Project Almanac.
So there may be some pseudo-science in there that might make a real physicist shake his head, but it's a movie about time travel, you have to suspend your disbelief a bit. Yes, the story wasn't the deepest, but I certainly found it compelling enough, and the characters likable enough to be thoroughly entertained .
I think the critics need to relax, take a break, try painting for awhile.
