Review of Prizzi's Honor (1985) by Scott A — 15 Jun 2013
This is basically a mix between a love story and a mafia film, and I think that is the main reason it really didn't work for me.
I mean it was decent, but the used a very corny score and the film was shot very bright. Add in most of the killing scenes are bloodless. You've got even Kathleen Turner showing her goods, yet they can't show blood? People get shot in the head and nothing? It just made it seem like it was going for a PG rating or something.
And everyone was trying to back stab each other, leading to massive confusion at times.
I will say Nicholson and Turner were fantastic together. Maybe if the film had been more about their love story, and less about her suddenly become a huge figure in the Mob Family.
But Loggia and Huston were pretty much wasted and useless characters. I thought I read Huston was nominated for an Oscar, maybe even won it, and I have no idea what for.
Good for a one time watch, but I'd never revisit it.
