A film of surprising complexity, both narratively and emotionally, it serves as both a meditation on guilt and suffering. It's cinematography is beautiful, and both of the leads carry the large weight of the story very capably.
Add all that with a great mystery and some neo-noir influence, and you get one of the great crime thrillers of our time.
