Review of Prisoners (2013) by Anna B — 06 Jun 2015
The big third-act exposition dump is pretty bad, and reveals the plot, which was already getting a bit ridiculous, to be really god damn trashy. But Villeneuve's direction rises above it for the most part, being tense, atmospheric (although more grimdark "life is pain, the world is full of monsters" than a modern DC comic book movie), and compelling.
This score is probably more than the dumb script deserves, but god damn it's a pleasure to watch.
