Review of Prisoners (2013) by Even T — 13 Sep 2015
My favorite description of this movie comes via YMS who called it "By the book but better". I couldn't have described it better than that myself, so I won't really try to. Jackman and Gyllenhaal were both huge oscar snubs, surprising even more so based on the time of year it came out.
The cinematography by Deakins mixed with Villeneuve's direction are eye catching. Especially in the driving scene in the third act (which I'll leave as vague as possible to avoid spoilers.) Overall, fans of the Crime/Thriller genre will love this, but those who find it underwhelming might recognize it as better than your average, but there's nothing new here to hook them.
