Review of Prisoners (2013) by Luke M — 28 Nov 2014
Dark and foreboding, it is easy for the viewer to sympathise with the two protagonists as they try desperately, in their own ways, to find the missing girls. Jackman is raw and terrifying in his portrayal as Keller Dover, and Gyllenhaal conveying his own internal pressure brilliantly. A remarkable standout in the film is Paul Dano, who portrays the almost catatonically withdrawn Alex Jones so convincingly that it is easy to forget that he is acting.
Denis Villeneuve's brilliant direction combined with sensational cinematography and a remarkable plot makes Prisoners brutal but satisfying viewing.
