Review of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2010) by James W — 11 Jun 2014
The world in Prince of Persia looks fantastic from sun scorched deserts which look stunning as well as architectural constructions which are amazing to look at as the camera sweeps over the landscape, visually this movie succeeds and it gives this video game adaptation some quality, but it's the characters and writing that don't succeed and like my previous review of Percy Jackson this is yet another movie that boasts a whopper of a cast but is deeply uneventful.
Ben Kingsley is a boring bad guy, there's no authority with his character considering he is a Lord, and the lovely Gemma Arterton isn't given much to work with, she is there for eye candy which is no problem for me but given her talent she is left with the bare minimum.
Gyllenhaal is a fine lead, his character Dastan is the only one that is three dimensional, thank god because he is the main protagonist. I didn't care much for the story, I've seen quite a few movies in the past month that have featured stories that don't draw you in or compel you during it's key scenes or action sequences.
The Sands of Time is borderline watchable but only once and then it's easily forgotten.
