Prince of Darkness begins slowly, requiring about half an hour to take off. However, when it does, it all of a sudden becomes very mysterious and unpredictable. I would also add that it mixes science, religion, zombies and extra-terrestrials really well (unlike Doom), which is in itself quite a feat for such a low-budget movie.
