Review of Prince of Darkness (1987) by Michael C — 10 Jan 2009
John Carpenter always does an excellent job with his films. From the way he presents it, ends it, the score and the story. Prince of Darkness was released in 1987. In 86 he did Big Trouble in Little China.
This film however is a straight horror film, with some comedy here and there. This film is part of John Carpenter's Apocalypse Trilogy, starting with The Thing, and ending with In The Mouth of Madness. With Prince of Darkness, the score is excellent it has some creepy tones that makes it all the scarier. The premise of the film in itself is horrifying. The film is about the resurrection of Satan and his father, While college students, professors and the priest try to figure out what is going on at the church while one by one they are being possessed by Satan and his followers.
Even though it Has a lot of Religious tones to the film, it is just an excellent film from John Carpenter. It also makes references to the Bible itself, like temptation and many other things. Overall this is another film that scares the hell out of me because of the religious aspects talking about the end of the world and Satan coming back. If there was anything I didn't like was that in the film they were saying the Jesus was a extraterrestrial. Besides that, it is a great film by John Carpenter.
