Review of Primer (2004) by Jon A — 30 Jan 2013
The logistics and mechanics of time traveling have always been too easy and unrealistic in the cinema (Looper). True, the characters in Primer talk in technical and esoteric terms which may cause disorientation, anger, and apathy.
Nevertheless, what Primer does really well is show us that should time traveling were possible, it would not be as easy as traveling to the future, check the stock market, return to the present and simply buy as many stocks as you can afford.
Primer is meant to confuse and perplex us. The beauty of it, though, is that it makes sense...somehow. Shane Carruth, the director, has made an extraordinary film on a minuscule budget - a Herculean achievement in the cinema of the 21st century.
