Review of Primer (2004) by Hotelcentral — 19 Jun 2019

Primer's producer, director, writer, and starring actor, Shane Carruth, is said to have said that he deliberately kept things complicated so that the audience would grasp just how complicated the science in the film might be. He might well have substituted "confusing" for "complicated." I personally would have chosen "obscure" or "opaque." Which is the long way of saying that I might not have understood what the movie is about, even in a general way, if I hadn't started out by reading the Wikipedia article about the film.

It's an interesting ride and I recommend it, mostly because it's just very different. But don't go into it expecting to understand it. One reviewer is quoted as saying that he's watched it eight or nine times and still hasn't a clue.
