Review of Primer (2004) by Frank V — 12 Jan 2014
An enigma wrapped in a wormhole split into a 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzle. Primer is a unique oddity of independent filmmaking. It's hard to talk about what Primer is about. Is it interesting? Yes. At least on a certain intellectual level for awhile.
But there's no emotional or psychological thrust that endears me to the characters or what they're up to. I'm not sure I will ever feel compelled to come back to this movie to watch it again.
I appreciate Carruth's unique filmmaking sensibility and craftsmanship, but crave something more accessible that I can get into.
