Review of Primary Colors (1998) by Gio H — 17 Aug 2007
An interesting look at politics. A side that is normally not portrayed in movies. The film is filled with strong actors particularly Kathy Bates performance as a tough lesbian. The movie is worthy enough to watch just to see Bates portraying such a role.
John Travolta, Emma Thompson and Adrian Lester also give good performances throughout the film. The story is ultimately a work of fiction but is loosely based on the Bill Clinton campaign for the presidential nomination of 1992.
There is some good depiction of what idealism and realism is in politics and it is shown strongly in this film. Overall, PRIMARY COLORS was a good depiction of political idealism and it was a decent political drama but it seemed to show a mild justification message towards the then recent Clinton scandal.
