Review of Priest (2011) by Viktor N — 28 Nov 2011
The devil comes in many shapes.
In a futuristic society the Earth is overrun by vampires. The church gathers society into cities and trains an elite task force known as ?Priests? to hunt down the vampire race and destroy them. Once all vampires are believes to be destroyed the priests are no longer needed and discarded by society. When it appears a vampire epidemic may be raising again, the few priests jump back into action.
?If I let you out you?ll be torn apart piece by piece.?
Scott Charles Stewart, director of Legion and the upcoming The Mortal Instruments, delivers Priest. The storyline for this picture is fairly straightforward and reminded me of Mutant Chronicles. The action scenes are solid and the special effects and settings are excellent. The acting is above average and the cast includes Paul Bettany, Maggie Q, Cam Gigandet, and Karl Urban.
?It?s a trap.?
Priest is another movie I came across at my mother in-law?s house that I decided to give a chance. I never saw The Legion but heard both this movie and that picture received poor reviews. Well, I was surprised that this was not that bad. I enjoyed most of the action sequences and found the plot worth following. The picture is definitely entertaining and a solid addition to the action genre. I recommend seeing this film once if you are a fan of the genre.
?To go against church is to go against God.?
Grade: C+/B- (6.5).
