Review of Priest (2011) by Kj H — 15 Jul 2012
Paul Bettany stars as a warrior priest in a dystopian future in which humans live in walled cities built by the Church to protect them from vampires, who they have been warring with throughout history.
The Church trains special warriors known as priests, who hunt the vampires to near extinction, the few remaining were moved to reservations and the priests were forced to retire. But when his niece is captured by vampires, Bettany defies Church orders and chases after her.
This movie had a lot of promise, and I have a feeling the comic it is based on has a more well developed story, but ultimately this is little more than an action flick, helped out by Bettany's acting talent.
Could have delved more into the life of those controlled by the Church, or all humans governed by an unquestioned authority. Barely above average.
