Review of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016) by Orlando O — 05 Feb 2016

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies may seem like the inside joke as a satire of Jane Austenâ(TM)s original work. Which it is, as Seth Graham-Smith reinvented it by adding zombies to the mix of the story.

This comedy horror film does have a fun premise that is brought down from a dull direction, and sloppy editing. I will say it is fun to see the main leading ladies, gearing up with knives slipped in their garters, and fighting with zombies.

The Bennettâ(TM)s sisters, Elizabeth (Lily James), and Jane (Bella Heathcote) are well trained for the zombie apocalypse, as there father (Charles Dance) have made sure they are skilled fighters. Their mother wants to marry off their daughters to wealthy suitors, during the time with the undead roaming around.

Colonel Darcy (Sam Riley) travels to their area, to stop the undead from spreading elsewhere. The film does have a fun idea of mixing around a Victorian era love story and adding zombies to the mix. There are moments when these characters like Elizabeth is the focus point, as she is not wanting to get married or give up her weapons to impress the man.

Every now and then, the Bennett sisters attend a couple of dance ball events, there are a few moments when zombies crash the party and these girls defend by slashing away at the undead. The film is cheesy fun, but the plot does have trouble trying to balance the pride and prejudice storyline with the undead in it.

The characters are not really in much threat at all throughout the movie, as they are all martial arts skilled in defending themselves. The only real conflict Elizabeth and Jane are struggling with is trying to gain the affection from Darcy and Mr.

Bingley (Douglas Booth). The sloppy editing on the action sequences does take away from the excitement, when it comes to editing the film down to PG-13. These type of films would have been best suited for R, when it comes to action scenes with these girls using blades and impaling and decapitating the undead.

There are lots of moments, when the girls are swinging their sword around into thin air towards the undead and they fall to the floor bloodless. Some of the action sequences were in dark settings which they can try to get away with it, but overall it was dull and terribly put together.
