Review of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016) by Cath O — 19 Feb 2016

I love Jane Austen but zombies in the drawing room? Surely not! However, I kind of enjoyed this pretty daft romp. The zombie backstory kind of worked with Sam Riley a glum and pretty charmless Colonel Darcy, zombie slayer. Nice prologue at a whist party leads us into a curious mix of canon Pride & Prejudice (with Matt Smith's Mr Collins about the most fun) and zombie fighting that is sub-Walking Dead convincing to be honest. Still, Lily James is a spirited Lizzie and there is a nice girl power message too! Big disappointment that Lena Headey's legendary zombie killer Lady Catherine DeBourgh doesn't get to do any zombie slaying!!!

Not quite sure who the audience is for this film. Zombie films and costume dramas don't seem to have an an obvious overlap - apart from me! Entertaining enough but a bit of a mess.
